Goals and Awareness

May 30, 2013

An area I’ve been extremely lucky is life not giving me things until earned.

A good indicator you’ve earned something is not jumping all over yourself, because you know what it took to get there. You’re familiar with each and every step, with ‘arrival’ being one more step in a continual process.

On the other hand, what can often happen is attaining outcomes through luck, or surface means. And, if we aren’t awake enough to see such scenarios for what they are, we’ll dull awareness by ascribing substance to where there is none.

In the context of awareness and cause and effect intellegence, the above thinking results in keeping you stuck.

Pay attention and move foward.

Dead-lines and Goals

May 28, 2013

In the context of mastery, something finished when it’s finished.

Trying to learn something by a pre-determined dead-line doesn’t work well because you don’t know enough yet to make such assessments.

If you want to learn something quickly, increase the daily amount of attention you give to it, letting it develop in it’s own time.

Best Day Ever?

May 26, 2013

“A single day is enough to make us a little larger or, another time, a little smaller.”
― Paul Klee

Each day is the best day ever when immeresed in things I love.

Also, in evaluative terms, how one gauges experience changes as we grow.

Yesterday was yesterday.

Patting Yourself On The Back

May 25, 2013

If I’ve put a lot of thought and care into something, I’m likely good at it, and should be. It’s no big deal because I know what went into it.

Patting myself on the back on the other hand keeps me stuck at the preceding level of development.

Make room for new adventures by moving on.

Creating a Following

May 24, 2013

Wanting or needing followers is the blind leading the blind.

Find your own path.

While some people’s contributions will naturally be greater than others, everyone has the ability to offer something unique to the mat.

Timing and Goals

May 23, 2013

Adding to the post below, sometimes the goal is right, but the time isn’t (‘time’ in this context meaning life trying to give you something more pertitent to your growth than what you think you need).

Insights and Goals

May 22, 2013

Insights by definition change everything from the inside out.

What blocks insight is attatchment to a narrow series of outcomes.

What good is a goal if it adds up to giving you more of something you never needed in the first place?

Dead-ends and False Starts

May 21, 2013

After reviewing several years of posting, suprised by how much crap I don’t consider worth addressing anymore. Lots of dead-ends and false starts here.

Name-Dropping Up and Comers…

May 21, 2013

Chris Ye and Josh Botkin are local BJJ up and comers who I DO name-drop. More on them soon, for now I’ll leave you with their anthem:

Anti-Glamor

May 21, 2013

You keep good things going by getting up and going to work tomorrow.

Call this ‘anti-glamor.’

To illustrate, trained with a UFC star a couple weeks back. The reason why his name will never be dropped on this blog is, to us it was a couple of dudes getting together to further our understanding of BJJ.
